Feeding Chickens

So we have our chickens, but what are we going to feed them? Well it's quite simple. You'll need some Growers/Layer Pellets, Mixed Corn and some Grit. Growers or Layer Pellets will give your chickens a balanced menu, Growers pellets are for young to point of lay chickens. It can come in very small pellet form or like dust, for very young chickens you can turn this into a mash with a little water and makes it easier for them to eat. Layer pellets are bigger pellets and these are for chickens from 18 weeks onwards, you don't have to do anything with these, just put them in a feeder and the chickens will do the rest.

Mixed Corn is a bulking agent and chickens will go mad for it, I personally only give this in moderation as it mainly just bulks up the muscles on the chickens which isn't really needed. Chickens will also need a little grit in their menu once in a while to help them out health wise. With regards to food portions, I feed my chickens a large butter tub full of pellets each evening when I shut them up for the night. In the morning I chuck a handful of corn into the run.

You can also feed your chickens left overs if you wish, they especially like bread, rice and potatoes. It all depends on your chickens really. But don't feed your chickens potato peelings.
