A big thank you to all those that went and rescued battery hens from our last local appeal. From the people we have heard from, we have managed to home about 500 battery hens. These hens were being sold off as they had apparently finished their 'run' and would then have gone into the pet food chain. If you know of other places selling off their battery hens, please let us know so that we can tell others. Lets give these hens a better life.

It is with great sadness that we announce that Dory has died, one of our original girls she fell asleep in the run on Wednesday afternoon. We are quite upset and it might seem daft, but Dory used to stand and talk to us whenever we were nearby. She'd died of old age and although we could tell for the past few weeks, it does seem to have hit us harder than we thought. What with all the personal strife we have had this month its not been a good month.

We are proud to announce, or at least my wife is that we now have 2 chicks that are now 3 days old. So I've had to cobble together a run and house for them and mum. But they all seem very well.  Following on from that we have limited it to two chicks, and have had to 'encourage' the other two broodies to stop. Which they seem alright about, at least this means that the girls have more room to lay their eggs.
