Madam is the broody one of the bunch, every May she goes broody but then she's not so keen when the chick comes along. Madam is a Black Rock and has a lovely black and tan pattern on her chest.
Bridgitte is by far the the princess of the gang. Although she does deserve it as she does look the prettiest of them all. She has light brown feathers and beautiful white feathers around her tail. She also acts a bit like a princess as well.
Missy is a beautiful bird with a lovely coat of feathers that look thick, smooth and silky. She is a Black Rock so she has a nice shine to her black and tan coat. She is quite sensible and seems to take everything in her stride.
Bean, yes Coffee's sister and she's a Columbian Black Tail. Remember my wife picked the names. These two are very similar indeed, the only way we can tell them apart at the moment is that Coffee has three black stripes in her tail, whereas bean has one big black stripe.
Dory is a bit of a scruffy looking girl, but she is quiet and reserved also. Until the new crew moved in she was at the bottom of ladder, but now it amazes me how she puts the younger ones in their place. I think this will do her the power of good and give her a lot more confidence that she really deserves.
This is Coffee and she is a Columbian Black Tail, hence the name. She has lovely dark brown feathers, which although dark has a beautiful shine to them. Very inquisitive and actually loves the camera. At last a vain chicken that loves the camera.
Last but by no means least is Meg, and just like her sister she is a little mad. In fact I remember when Missy and Madam were young, they were very skitish too. They are into everything and love to know what your up to.
Lou Lou is named after Louise, one of our original chickens who sadly got knocked over by a car in March 2007. She looks very much like Louise and has more white feathers around the back of her neck than Jessies her sister. Another quiet one really.
Now here we come to the two characters of the bunch, the black Rocks. Florence like her sister is totally mad, into everything and scoots around like Speedy Gonzales.
Poppy is our other arrival and very similar to Princess. These two are always together wandering around the orchard. As the new arrivals they had the others putting them in their place like chickens do, but all that has setled down now and they all seem one happy family.
Princess is one of our new arrivals, she came with Poppy and they are just like a couple of sisters. We gave Princess her name because she has lots of white flecks in her coat which look like a fancy little dress. She is the most talkative of the girls, often jumping on the fence to be spoken to.
